I was in serious need of some R&R (rest and recuperation//Red Heart Rum) after a month of constant birding and travelling in the Canaries and Morocco. The La Casa Mia Guest House in Kimberley, with their delightful managers Elaine and Frans, became my home from home for the next three days. I gorged myself on the culinary delights of Kimberley, had a much-needed haircut, and sorted out my administration and banking. Daai Dêng was cleaned and repacked while I unsuccessfully tried to find all the valuables I had hidden in the camper before I left for the Canaries. After Kimberley I spent a night in Kathu with Andrè and Nelia de Villiers, good friends from my military days when I was stationed nearby at the Combat Training Centre in Lohatlha. In spite of all the wonderful distractions I was still able to tick the Red-billed Francolin on the Kathu Golf Course.
