This route is a compromise between:

​

a.         Available funds (A major factor!!!!)

b.         Climate – it is no fun to get stuck in the mud for days on end

c.         Birding regions, bird distribution and breeding seasons

d.         Migration routes and choke points

e.         Security & Accessibility - In Africa there will always be countries that are not accessible, or with major security challenges

The plan is to fly to countries north of the Sahara and to self-drive south of the Sahara.
