15 Feb 2019: Illegal entry into Algeria

My brother, Eric, sent me a photo of my satellite phone’s location indicator showing that we had crossed the border into Algeria. It seems that we, while travelling cross-country, illegally wandered into Algeria for about 3km and then returned back to Morocco. When I showed the map image to Mohammed he denied it vehemently, saying that if this were true we would be dead, as there are landmines protecting the border. The National Geographic travel map I use in Morocco also confirms that this part of the border is heavily mined.

It makes one wonder… Would the driver of the rented 4x4 received his 72 virgins in paradise if we did light up like a giant firecracker? What would my first words to the driver have been as we arrived at the pearly gates? I have a faint suspicion that my guardian angle has been putting in a lot of overtime.
