24 January 2019: Dipping in Grahamstown

Lynette Rudman graciously offered to help me search for the Cape Eagle-owls in the

usual quarry in Grahamstown, where she had shown me a pair the previous year.

She also warned me that the owls had not been seen for the past two to three

weeks, which is rather worrying for the owls have been a birding feature of

Grahamstown for numerous years. We searched all the tiers of the quarry, but to no

avail. The area is stricken by a severe drought, and it can be that the owls have left

because of a lack of water in the quarry. Let’s hope that the owls soon return to their

roost!
