The morning started off well with another vehicle being provided by the car hire company to take us back to Entebbe. The journey back was uneventful, with only Red-necked Falcon and White-headed Helmet Shrike being added to our Uganda list. We again booked in at the excellent Victoria Lake View Lodge, where the staff greeted us by name when we arrived. Here it was great to run into Justin Rhys Nicolau, a birding guide from South Africa, who was also concluding a birding tour with a client from Panama. Sadly, that evening Captain Morgan’s pirate ship was sunk, as he had finally run out of spirit(s).

Then it was time to fly back to Pretoria. Despite the long hours travelled between the selected birding sites and a few unfortunate vehicle breakdowns, I had seen 240 bird species in Uganda and managed to add 60 new birds to my African Big Year list. Many thanks to Escape to the Wild who provided an authentic African adventure!
