After Tundavala I travelled north-west, in the direction of Benguela and Lobito. Rob had sent me a GPS waypoint where most birding groups turn north into the bush and follow a track to a site where they usually camp. I mistakenly turned south on a cattle track and followed it for about three kilometres, to where it petered out. I camped there for the night, to the utter amazement of some cattle herders who happened to pass by.

The birding in the area was good, although I found no new birds for the African Big Year list. The call of a Hartlaub’s Spurfowl woke me up just before sunrise.
